The “Biggest Loser” television show has inspired thousands of people to get started on their fitness and weight loss programs. Seeing the contestants in a seemingly hopeless situation overcome their obstacles, succeed, and totally turn their life around, not only fascinates people, but also makes people think, “Hey, I can do that. If those people can do that, so can I.” That’s where it stops for most of us. I was in St. Louis this past weekend and had the chance to watch the St. Louis Marathon and Half Marathon. Watching the excitement and joy on the faces of the runners as they crossed the finish line was inspiring to me. I have run in both marathons and half marathons, and it was still inspiring to me to watch. Many of the runners were overweight, older, and just in general did not appear able to complete such a feat. If you doubt you could run a race of any distance, I would highly suggest you stand at the finish line at a race of the distance you would like to try. I guarantee you will be inspired.

When starting any type of  exercise routine, people need to be inspired. If you are looking for inspiration, you can find it from many sources. It may come in the form of a story in the paper, a movie, or a book about somebody who overcame the odds stacked against them and succeeded. When you break it down, these people aren’t much different than you. They were usually inspired by a person or a situation in their life. From that inspiration, they moved forward and let nothing get in their way. Try it. You’d be surprised. We’re here for you if you are looking for support and inspiration. Don’t stop at your moment of inspiration. Take that inspiration and use it as a means to get through your obstacles. Who knows, maybe some day there will be a story out there about you. Most success stories start with an ordinary person just like you.

Have a good week!
