Hell0 to all of our Kinetic Connections followers. This is a slow week for us. It is nice to see the high school football season get back into the swing of things. We hope all of our athletes performed well and survived their first games without injury. As we get ready to start our fall training it is good to see some of our clients reap the benefits of their hard work. Carley Carwoski is making her preparations to compete in her first figure competition in November. She has been training for the last 30 weeks. She has 9 more to go. Follow her progress under the entries on our website for Project Perfection. One of our clients, Connie VanDerweel, has qualified for the National Championships in dressage. Her horse is presently ranked number one in the nation. She will be competing the week of Labor Day in Michigan. We wish her good luck. Over and over we see nothing but positive results from our clients who are persistent and dedicated to achieving their goals. Have a good week.

The time is coming. Carley is starting to get ready for her final preparations. She is looking into posing suits, coaching in posing, and appearance tips. People at her health club are starting to take notice. Her confidence is climbing and she is starting to feel she can do this.

Carley recently contacted me, stating even she is starting to notice the results. She feels the addition of kettle bells to her routine have really impacted her results. We can’t wait to see her at the end of this phase. Tapering is right around the corner.

It has been great to see Carley transform. She has gone from dreading workouts to looking forward to them. She has gone from putting less than 100% into each workout to giving 110% into each workout. And, best of all, her transformation has been inspiring to people in her club and to herself. Carley is now looking into becoming a personal trainer. We are very pleased.

Greetings everybody from the staff at Kinetic Connections. Just got back from a beautiful run on a gorgeous day in Chicagoland. My endorphins are swirling and my mind is clear. What a way to start the day. We were at a barbecue last night and it was interesting. I was asking somebody there how there running was going? Last time I saw this person was at The Northshore 1/2 Marathon and she was proud of her 30 lb. weightloss and how she felt. She said unfortunately, my husband lost his job and I found food and stopped running. End result, gained 20lb. back. During the evening, conversation turned to T.V. shows. I was amazed at how many shows people watch and wondered just how much time that must consume. It’s funny, because one of the most common excuses I get from my clients is , ” I would work out if I had the time.” Ask somebody who is winning on American Idol, or America’s Got Talent, and you’ll get an immediate response. I checked Kinetic Connection’s Facebook page for the first time this weekend. It was very nice. Beth Koch did a great job. I typed my kid’s names in . I don’t get it. There were random comments listed from tons of people , all at varying times. Do people just sit on their butts all day and read this stuff? What’s the point of my ramblings? People say they want to get in shape, lose weight, do more. But, they never have the time. I don’t think that’s true. There is plenty of time, we just choose to use it poorly, in non-productive ways.

Times are hard. People are unemployed. Now is the time to get strong both physically and mentally. Take control of yourself. Start working out. Do something positive. Don’t sit on the couch, eating, waiting for something good to happen. You’ll be waiting a long time. Kid’s watch all of these so called celebrities and want to be like them. We are very passive, taking the easy way out. We have been in times like these before and we have worked our way out. Key word, worked. Be proactive, not reactive. Start by taking control of yourself. Don’t sit back and watch. Go out and make something happen. It can be infectious.

Have a good week. Get up and do something.

The dog days of summer are here. It’s the middle of August and it’s smok’n hot outside. I don’t see many people out running or riding their bikes. It’s only the hardcores that go out in weather like this. Where is everybody else? Inside, dreading the heat. What is the difference between the ones who go out in all types of weather and those who stay in? Working out is fun for those who are out in all types of weather. This is a discovery made in the bestseller “Born to Run.” It chronicles a tribe known for it’s ability to run sick amounts of distance without stopping. A scientist noticed something about the tribesmen when they were running, even after they had been running over 60 miles. They were smiling and laughing. It was fun. When we were kids, we went out at recess and ran around. We chased each other, tackled each other, even yelled at each other. It was fun. A release of energy. When we got back in we felt good. We couldn’t wait to go back out. What happened? Somewhere we started viewing exercise as a negative. A chore. Something to avoid. Be human. Pick a form of exercise that is palatable and embrace it. Look forward to doing it. Bring some physical fun back into your life. Who knows, you may bring that child in you back out.

Our new website has been up and running for a little over six months now. We have enjoyed a steady growth of members. Just like our training, we like to improve everything we do. We can’t do this without your help. We are looking for feedback on our website. At this time we would love to hear from you about what you like about the site. What you don’t like about the site. And, any suggestions on how we can improve the site. Please send all responses to info@kcconditioning.com.

Thank You and have a great week.

The school year is right around the corner. Some Illinois students start next week and a lot of them start the following week. College students are making their preparations to go back to school and NFL training camps are in full operation. What does this all mean, The loose schedules for the summer are coming to an end. The routine that comes with getting the kids off to school, doing homework, and driving the kids to their after school activities will be starting. The word here is routine.

Leading a healthy and productive lifestyle requires a lot of routine. With fall coming it is time to put your routines together. This should include at least one hour of exercise a day. If you can do something routinely for 6-8 weeks it becomes a habit. Start your healthy habits now, and get rid of the bad habits that come with summer i.e. eating too much at picnics, drinking too much, not getting enough sleep.

With fall coming, we will be starting our weekend workouts at Grass Lake School. Officially we start the weekend after Labor Day, on Saturday morning and Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. Many people have inquired about the workouts for their student athletes. If you have any questions, check our website kcconditioning.com, or contact us by e-mail at info@kcconditioning.com. We are holding adult classes on Monday and Wednsday nights at 7 p.m. at Colletti Physical Therapy, 543 Orchard St., Antioch, I. 60002, and on Friday mornings at 5:30 a.m. Be prepared for the fall and in great shape by the holidays.

The dog days of summer are here. The temperature and humidity is rising, the baseball races are starting to mean something, and football training camps are just around the corner. What does it all mean, fall sports are coming soon. Hopefully all of those who participated in summer sports and speed and agility camps will be able to showcase their new found skills. Our summer camps come to a close on Tuesday. This will give our athletes just enough time to recover from the strenuous rigors of their training. Just a few thoughts on recovery. It is an important phase of any workout program and should be part of any training program. Highly driven athletes often overlook the recovery phase of their workouts. Constant increases in workloads without any type of recovery can lead to overtraining syndrome. The symptoms are hard to recognize at first. People first feel they are out of shape and end up working harder only to find they are getting slower and weaker. Things to look out for: tired legs, difficulty sleeping, increased resting heart rate, irritability and anxiety. The cure is rest. Overtraining can be reversed quickly if caught early. It can take 6 months or greater to reverse if proper steps are not followed early. The lesson here is listen to your body and rest it when indicated. The end result, your performance will benefit from the proper work rest ratio. Rest is part of working out. Have a good week.

Persistence is the word for the week. We caught up with Carley, our figure contestant, this week. We performed her fourth assessment and the results were tremendous. Carley has lost 11 pounds since mid-January and close to 5% body fat. She is sporting six pack abs. and well defined arms and legs. Carley’s training has been tedious and the results have been slow to come. She has experienced doubt, disappointment, and the desire to give up. She doubted her workout program was right for her because the results weren’t immediate. She was disappointed in the slow results which made her want to give up at times. Fortunately, Carley didn’t give up and her persistence has paid off. The results have taken 7 months to appear. The lesson here is to believe in what you are doing, follow through and your persistence will pay off. Keep on working out. It will pay off in the long run.

Have a good week

We finally caught up with Carley earlier this week and performed a reassessment. The results were fantastic. Carley’s transformation is nearing completion and she knows it. She has lost 11 pounds overall and toned herself up completely from head to toe. Her body fat has dropped from over 19% to 15%. She is close to symmetrical throughout in her legs and arms. Carley shows confidence in herself by how she carries herself and her attitude. She is eager to hit the stage in a competition. The search for a competition continues.

Our goals for phase IV are pretty simple: improve posture, lose a little more weight, and finish off the legs. Her next workout for phase IV is being formulated at this time. The results for phase III were better than expected. Hopefully we’ll have some pictures up in the near future. Carley promises to keep in better touch with us. Check back with us next week to track Carley’s progress.
