The dog days of summer continue. We hear it everyday, “It’s too hot to do anything outside.” The heat doesn’t have to stop you. It just takes some planning and a change of your expectations. Your activities outside may have to be revised. You may have to decrease the amount of time you workout outside. That doesn’t mean you can’t do anything. Hydration is the most important key to being able to physically tolerate the heat. Drink plenty of fluid before you go outside and continue to drink fluids during, and after your activities. Remember to eat plenty after your activities outside. Your body is working overtime to keep cool. Signs the heat is affecting you are: a racing heart or increased heart rate, heaviness in your muscles, headaches, and a loss of energy or enthusiasm. These symptoms can last for more than one day. If they are ongoing, you may be showing signs of overtraining, and that can be serious with long term affects. More on overtraining in the future. Finally, if you want to exercise in the heat, but don’t think it’s worth it because you can’t do your whole routine, remember this, KISS. Keep It Short and Simple. Pick one thing out of our workout that you think is most important and valuable and perform that activity. It will be worthwhile. While you might be bumming you aren’t doing everything you normally do, it won’t be long until the weather changes and you will be able to return to your regular routine. In six months you will be longing for these hot summer days. “Live in the moment and make the best of it.”

Adult  exercises classes are ongoing 7-8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday nights at Colletti Physical Therapy. Adult classes on Saturday mornings from 8-9 a.m. are held tentatively, depending on the number of people interested that week. Contact us on Friday evenings 847-395-6100 or e-mail us at info@kcconditioning.com to see if there will be a Saturday class. Weekend speed and agility sessions for athletes will resume in September. Have a good week!

It’s hard to believe six weeks have gone by. Our summer camps have been completed. We’re closer to school starting than when it ended. Now is the time for our athletes to reap the benefits of their hard work over the summer. We have officially completed all of the group training sessions we offer. We will be starting our open speed and agility sessions at Grass Lake School in September. Check our website or contact us in September to see when we start. We do have some people who are interested in continuing. We will continue this summer upon request.

As always, we were pleaesed with the efforts and results of our athletes. One of the great pleasures the summer was working with Andrew Freeman. He was presesent for all of our sessions during the S.P.A. camp and requested to return for the two week session on running speed. He knocked 1 second off his 4o time and gained just under 5 inches on his vertical jump. Andrew always smiled and tried to incorporate all of our suggestions. His attitude and effort will surprise him and others on the playing field.

We hope to put together a small video and or slide show from the summer. Stay tuned. During our break from speed and agility we will be putting our plans together for the next year. If you have any suggestions, let us know at info@kcconditioning.com. We’d also like to hear any success stories you may have. Again, please forward them to our e-mail address. Thank you for your support. Talk to ya next week.

We’re Back! Sorry for the lapse in Newsletters. The summer has been packed full of activity both personally and professionally for the staff at Kinetic Connections. Rob is teaching at CLC, running volleyball clinics, and running the summer S.P.A. camps for Kinetic Connections. Beth has been working on her Martial Arts skills, doing personal training, preparing for her first college bound child, and is presently in Europe reuniting with her exchange families and friends from her year in H.S. as an exchange student. Steve is fresh back from Germany after seeing his grandaughter get married in Germany, keeping Colletti Physical Therapy in order after practically doubling in size, helping out with the S.P.A. camp and our adult training sessions, and keeping current with all there is to know in the physical therapy and training world. Larry is umpiring, learning to fly, learning to shoot, helping out with the S.P.A. camps, training in our adult group classes, and doing personal training at Snap 24 Hour Fitness in Lake Villa and Salem.

As you can see, the trainers at Kinetic Connections have multiple interests, the desire to learn, and committment. We’re here for you to use our knowledge and experise to better youself in all of your physical endeavors. Summer has been extremely busy. Our keynote activity during the summer is our S.P.A. (Speed,Power, and Agility) camp. We had 26 athletes attend our four week session, and 12 attend our second session on improving linear speed. Camp ends next Saturday. We will be starting our open sessions in September, on Saturday and Sunday mornings, 7:30-8:30a.m.

We are closer to August than June. What does that mean? School is right around the corner. Football will be starting, basketball, volleyball, and soccer aren’t too far around rthe corner. It’s time to start to think about how you are going to improve your abilities in these sports. If you are an athlete that plays any of th above sports, or have an athlete that plays any of the above sports, call us to see where we can help your athlete have their best season ever. While the competition is sleeping, we are working. Be a winner! Join us at Kinetic Connections to have your best season ever. Call Larry or Steve to see what Kinetic Connections can  do for your athlete or you to perform at your highest level ever.

Last of all, I, Larry Stone, would like to convey an example of what happens when somebody comes to us, works hard, does what we say, and returns to their sport to just dominate at their position. This weekend, my profile goes out to Sephany “Midge” Parks. I had the pleasure to umpire the NSA ( National Softball Association ) Wisconsin state qualifier for the NSA girls fastpitch “World Series”. I was in awe watching Midge cover the left side of the infield as second baseman. But, the best part was when Stephany hit a sinking liner to right. The ball got past the right fielder. She got a standup triple. Anybody else would have had a close play at 3. That was only one part of the game. She selflessly executed a sacrifice bunt. Her coverage of the plate was excellent. She appeared to have the knowlege she had the ability to do whatever she wanted to do at the plate. This was the intangible we see time and again from our athletes. She is a team player from the word go. That’s what we produce. Thank you Midge for making us proud.

We hope you all are having a great summer. Please keep us in mind for all of your fitness needs.
