Today is the last day of October and it is truly the start of the holiday season. Everybody counts Thanksgiving as the start of the holiday season. The holiday season signifies that time of the year we let our guard down and eat and drink anything we want with the promise of starting our new diets on New Years Day. The average person lets themselves go for the five weeks from Thanksgiving through New Years Day and gains on the average 10lbs. To make things worse, they make New Years resolutions that are impossible to achieve and fail at them usually by February. Things don’t have to be that way. Having a plan with clear achievable goals can get you through the holidays without hating yourself. It starts today.

How do you do it? Set a plan to lose one pound a week for the next three weeks. This will take you up to Thanksgiving. The proper plan should include a healthy diet and routine exercise. Start by making good, healthy, eating choices. Then, add routine exercise. If you can lose one pound a week for the next three weeks, you should be happy. This should be easy. You shouldn’t have any parties to go to other than the one everybody forgets about on Halloween. If you lose the weight, remember how you did it, and stay the course through the holiday season. If you don’t lose any weight before now and Thanksgiving, remember why you didn’t, and try to make a plan with minimal changes in your personal habits. The greatest contributors to failure in any type of  plan to improve oneself is setting goals that are not achievable and setting too many goals. Remember, the holidays are right around the corner, and everybody dreads the weight gains they see from the holiday season. If you are honest with yourself, proactive, and serious, you can control yourself and set yourself up for a great start to 2011. If you don’t feel you can do it alone, we at Kinetic Connections are here and ready to help you navigate through the holiday season. Don’t do the same thing this year and hope for a better result. Be prepared, you’ll start 2011 in control and happy with yourself.

The past week was a slow one at Kinetic Connections. We have been seeing less clients for the exercise group on Friday mornings at 5:30 a.m. As a result, we will be holding the Friday morning class every other Friday. Class will be held this Friday morning. Call or write if you have any questions. We had very good attendance this past weekend at our speed and agility class. It was nice to see a lot of new faces. We do hold an adult class simultaneously along with the speed and agility class on Saturdays. There is not much to report this week. Have a good week.

The 33rd Chicago marathon was run last weekend. Out of 45,000 athletes regisrered, 38,000 finished. I am sure all of the finishers were not world class athletes. Rather, the majority of the runners were ordinary people like you and I. They chose the goal of participating in and finishing the Chicago Marathon. I am sure for the most part, the majority of the runners had a running plan to achieve this goal. Most of the running programs were taken from proven programs. If the runners followed the program, they would finish the marathon in the time they trained for. It is amazing how successful people who run marathons are when they follow a particular program that is proven. Congratulations to all the runners who completed the Chicago Marathon from all of us at Kinetic Connections.

We use the example above regarding following a tried and proven program to see how you can be successful using that same principal in other areas regarding your health. A great example appeared recently from one of our adult clients. She had lost 23 lbs. from February to June. Unfortunately, she plateaued over the summer. She had continued her workout program, but she had been cheating on her diet. She had added ice cream to her daily diet. At first she got away with it. She was cautioned this change would come back and bite her. It finally did and she gained 3lbs. in a week. When this happened she took ice cream out of her diet. The net result was a 4lb. weight loss. in 2 weeks. The point of the story is, don’t try to cheat what works. If you don’t know what works, do some research. Then, take the steps needed to be successful.

On the business end, Project Perfection 2010 is on hold. We will inform you in the future how things turned out.

Have a good week

We as trainers are in a profession that gives us a chance to see people do things that surprise themselves. We love to see the look on a client’s face when we ask them to do something that is seemingly impossible to them. But the real payoff is when that client tries and succeeds. The key here is “trying.” Slowly we are becoming a society that doesn’t try. To try, means to examine or investigate, to put to test or trial, to subject to strain, affliction, or annoyance. Without trying, we cannot flourish, grow or prosper. This applies to exercise, education, working, or anything we do. Without trying, we cannot grow physically, or mentally, or financially. It is the success people have when they try something and succeed that motivates us as trainers. Our background as trainers empowers us to get our clients to try things they feel they can’t do. Our ability to lead our clients down the path of trial and success. It is amazing how much people can do if they try. If you have any doubts about your ability to exercise and succeed, give us a try. We are capable of putting you on the path of physical success.
